The Man Behind Bhadraksh
For the past eight years, music has been the rhythm of my life. My fascination with musical instruments began in childhood when I’d tap out rhythms on desks and tables. Growing up in a boarding school in Dehradun, I immersed myself in extracurricular activities, but singing didn’t find me until the 10th grade. Back then, I was hesitant to sing, self-conscious about my voice, which I thought was too immature and feminine.
Everything changed when I started college. I picked up the guitar and, after attending a few formal lessons, taught myself to play. My dedication to the instrument and passion for music led me to participate in college competitions, where I began gaining recognition. Despite my love for music, I followed a traditional path, completing a BBA and an MBA, which led to a corporate job. However, I quickly realized the monotony of that life didn’t fulfill me.
Determined to pursue my passion, I took a leap of faith and explored sound production. This newfound skill gave me the confidence to record my voice and compositions. Fueled by ambition, I composed nearly 50 songs during my college years, releasing my debut track, “Suni Si Zindagi,” in 2017. Since then, I have released 10 songs on various platforms, with my latest single, “Tere Intezaar Mei,” resonating with listeners.
In 2017, I ventured into live performances by forming my band, Bhadraksh, a Delhi-based ensemble specializing in pop and rock Bollywood music. Drawing inspiration from retro classics—songs I grew up listening to in my father’s car—I crafted a unique sound. Today, we perform at least 20–22 shows monthly, ranging from intimate café gigs to grand private events.
Starting out as a live performer was far from easy. With no roadmap or guidance, I approached restaurant owners, offering to play for free or minimal pay. It was a humbling yet invaluable learning experience. Over time, I recognized my worth and gained the confidence to charge appropriately for our talent. Today, my band receives invitations to perform for Delhi Police, Army, and Navy officers, among others, and has expanded to international stages in Thailand, Singapore, and Dubai.
The COVID-19 pandemic was one of the most challenging times in my career. With shows canceled, income dried up, and I had to pivot quickly. Virtual gigs provided a silver lining, and my corporate job offered financial stability. Balancing both worlds wasn’t easy, but it was essential for sustaining my passion for music.
I also began engaging in social causes, performing for NGOs and bringing joy to children and the elderly. These moments, filled with smiles and gratitude, became some of the most cherished of my journey.
Beyond singing and playing the guitar, I’ve developed a recognized skill: whistling. It adds a unique flair to my performances, often surprising audiences. Looking ahead, my dream is to achieve national and international fame as a singer, composer, and live performer.
I want my music to make my family proud. I dream of the day when someone says to my parents, “You’re Naman’s mom and dad, aren’t you?” That moment will be the pinnacle of my success.
My journey so far has been a mix of destiny and relentless hard work. I’ve learned to stay positive, steer clear of negativity, and embrace every opportunity. Music is my joy, my solace, and my calling, and I can’t wait to see where it takes me next.
For anyone chasing a dream, remember: believe in yourself, work tirelessly, and the world will recognize your light.
